Home Lessons

Home lessons involve an instructor travelling to you. All you need is access to your own pool. We mainly travel to homes in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and Inner City.

Lessons can be conducted throughout the spring/summer months in outdoor backyard pools, and can continue throughout the year for people with access to an indoor pool.

This is a convenient alternative to swimming in a commercial swim school as children are in a familiar environment with fewer distractions. It can also be a more time effective solution for parents with more than one child as you can group all their lessons at the same time!

Prices

Home classes are paid for either as a single one off lesson or as a package of 5, 10 or 15 classes at a time. The more you buy at a time the bigger discount you receive!

The prices are all flat rates with a maximum of 4 per class. Many families choose to share a lesson with a couple of other children in order to make it cost effective. We also recommend that children sharing a lesson be of a similar age and level in order to get the most out of the swimming lesson.

Types of swim classes

Parent & baby classes (Ducklings Level)

Our parent and baby program is a great way for babies to experience an aquatic environment. These classes are for babies from 6months to 24months of age. Our qualified instructors explain safe and secure techniques for holding babies in the water. They also guide you through fun and stimulating activities that let babies explore their aquatic surroundings and develop a basic understanding of water and safety skills.

The recommended water temperature for preschool and infant aquatics is 32 degrees C, so it is important that your pool is adequately heated for these lessons. If your pool is not well heated we recommend taking a look at the classes we offer at the Wairoa School in North Bondi.

Toddler transition – 2-3 yrs (Crab level)

As babies develop into toddlers we understand they go through many changes as they become more aware of their surroundings.  At this stage many begin to develop their independence in the water whilst still having the safety & security of a parent or carer nearby.

Classes are 30min long with no more than 4 parent/toddlers per group.

The parent/carer role in a toddler transition class is still very important. Demonstration and manipulation plays a big part in developing a toddler’s skills and coordination. We believe that learning through supervised exploration constitutes for a safe learning environment.

Learn to swim

The AquaBuddies Learn To Swim program focuses on developing the foundations for a correct swimming technique. Our experienced staff will help children develop swimming skills at their own pace. They are flexible with lesson plans and tailor activities to meet each child’s individual needs. They also show children their boundaries as they learn about the importance of water safety.

AquaBuddies Instructors are provided with continuous training and development to ensure our service is of the highest standard. They’re also friendly, approachable and love working with children!

Learn To Swim caters for preschool through to school aged children. The program covers 6 main levels.

1. Turtle

Turtles are usually at preschool age. They are normally at a level where they feel happy and confident in the water without a parent or carer. They are also at a level where they can follow basic instructions from the teacher.

Here are some of the skills we aim to develop in these classes

  • Submerging themselves under water happily and begin reaching for objects.
  • Kicking and paddling with a noodle or kickboard
  • Front and back floating with a board
  • Jump to an adult and turn back to the side of the pool
  • Mastering strength to climb out of the pool
  • Introduction to lifting head to breathe and assisted swim, lift and breathe
  • Reinforce water safety skills and boundaries

2. Goldfish

Goldfish are usually advanced preschool aged children or early primary school age. At this stage Instructors build upon the skills learnt as a Turtle, as they continue to gain strength and start to show more coordination.

Adult Classes

We also provide home lessons to adults on request.  Adult classes cater to all ages and abilities. Some adults may be complete beginners; others may want to improve their technique with a particular fitness goal in mind. AquaBuddies instructors will tailor a program to suit you and help you reach your swimming goals.
