Our stroke correction swimming programs in Coogee and Bondi are designed for children who are already confident in the water and ready to refine their technique. Classes focus on building efficiency, improving body position and introducing more advanced strokes in small groups of up to three children.
If your child is still building water confidence, our kids Learn to Swim program is the right starting point. Find out how to enrol or use our level finder to find the right starting point for your child.

Dolphin
At Dolphin level, swimmers are building strong technique and endurance, and can typically swim 25m of breaststroke with correct timing. At this stage, butterfly skills are introduced, along with a range of race skills to help prepare swimmers for school carnivals, including starts, turns, and finishes.

What Is Stroke Correction Swimming?
Stroke correction swimming focuses on identifying and fixing inefficient technique habits that develop as children progress through learn to swim programs. While learn to swim builds the foundations of water confidence and basic movement, stroke correction takes children who can already swim independently and works on how they swim, not just that they can.

At AquaBuddies, stroke correction covers freestyle technique and bilateral breathing, backstroke efficiency, breaststroke timing and kick, and an introduction to butterfly. Instructors provide focused feedback each session on body position, arm movement, breathing patterns and coordination so children develop efficient, powerful strokes that will serve them for life.

Stroke Development vs Stroke Correction: What Is the Difference?

Stroke development and stroke correction are closely related but have a slightly different focus. Stroke development builds new skills progressively, introducing strokes your child has not yet learned and developing endurance alongside technique.
Stroke correction targets specific inefficiencies in strokes a child already uses, fixing habits like dropped elbows, incorrect head position or inefficient breathing that reduce speed and increase effort.
In practice, most children benefit from both at once, which is why AquaBuddies programs work on developing new strokes while correcting technique at each level.
Stroke Correction Swimming FAQs
What is stroke correction swimming?
Stroke correction swimming focuses on refining a child's existing swimming technique to improve efficiency, reduce drag and build better habits across all strokes. It is designed for children who can already swim independently and targets specific technical improvements rather than building basic water confidence.

Is my child ready for stroke correction?
Stroke correction is suited to children who can already swim independently and are looking to improve how they swim. If your child is still working toward swimming independently, our Kids Swimming Lessons program is the better starting point.

What are the benefits of stroke correction lessons?
Stroke correction improves swimming efficiency so children can swim faster and further with less effort. Proper technique also reduces the risk of repetitive strain and builds the confidence that comes from swimming well rather than just swimming. Children who complete stroke correction programs typically perform significantly better at school swimming carnivals and are better prepared for squad training if they choose to pursue it.

What is the difference between stroke correction and stroke development?
Stroke development introduces and builds new strokes progressively alongside endurance. Stroke correction targets inefficient habits in strokes a child already uses, like incorrect breathing, poor body position or dropped elbows, to improve speed and reduce effort. Most programs work on both simultaneously.
Can my child do stroke correction alongside holiday intensives?
Yes. Combining regular stroke correction lessons with a Holiday Swim Intensive is one of the most effective ways to accelerate progress. Contact us to discuss the best approach for your child.
